Trust and Faith

Two words that have been coming up more in my sessions with clients are trust and faith. Most that need to hear these words are going through bigger transformations. They may be learning about themselves or healing old beliefs. When you let go of so much or make bigger changes you are moving into the unknown. You know what you don’t want but how do you know what is right going forward? How do you know you will be making the right choices? That is where the energy of trust and faith comes in. Trusting yourself and having faith that you are moving in the right direction. But how do you have trust or faith when you have no new experiences to build on? When everything is so new and unknown?

Most people tend to trust what they know. Their own experiences and how they respond to things. Or how others respond to situations. For example, what if you burned your hand on a hot stove as a child. You would probably avoid the stove in the future. Or assume it was always hot and dangerous. Your past experience is telling you to be safe and remember what happened last time. So, you trust it. But what if the stove is not on? What if it is cool to touch and safe? How would you know if you didn’t check? You learned to trust your past experience to a fault. Always protecting you from repeating the same experience. But not considering that things might have changed. It might be a different stove. You may be older and wiser. You know how the stove works and what is safe and not safe to do. So, you need to trust yourself to have a new experience. Trust you can sense danger but also not to always live in fear.

Think about your past experiences. What might be holding you back from trying to have a new experience? Were you hurt in a relationship and assume anyone new will bring the same experience? Or do you trust yourself to have better boundaries and recognize unhealthy patterns? Do you have faith in yourself that you have done healing to have better awareness? Do you have faith that you can have healthier people in your life? Can you recognize that you have changed, situations around you have changed and you are no longer creating the same experiences? Can you trust that you are safe and have faith that things will turn out better?

Having faith in something is essentially believing in something. I have faith that I will have a better experience this time. I have faith my surgery will go well. I have faith that I will attract healthier people in my life. I have faith that I will succeed in my goals. I have faith that there are better things to come. Having faith is like putting an intention out that things will turn out how you expect. When you learn to trust yourself more it is easier to have faith in yourself. When you do a lot of inner work and self-healing there comes a point that you need to have faith in all the work you have done. Then go test the waters to see what new experiences you will create. Having a strong faith can feel safe and protected. You trust in yourself and the universe to bring you what you need or want.

So when you go through bigger life changes and have done all the work, know the next steps are to develop trust and faith. It may feel challenging at first but as you build new experiences and a new foundation it will become easier. You will feel more in the flow of things. Where you know what you want and what you don’t want. You trust yourself to choose what is needed. And then you have faith that the universe will send you what your energy is aligned with. Are you choosing more peace and love in your life? Have you made changes to remove things that are not aligned with those energies? If so, have faith and trust that you are drawing in people and situations that are aligned with peace and love.

If you have done a lot of inner work and self-healing, have trust and faith. Start working more with those energies. If old fears or triggers pop up know that is ok. Those are the old things that kept you safe in the past. But know that you have done the work and have new awareness and tools to handle things. Have trust and faith in all the hard work you have done. Then test out the new you and see how trust and faith can be your new tools for a healthier and happier life.
