Energetic Trends

Energy is powerful, especially when it comes together and creates movement. The more energy put toward something the stronger it can feel and the more persuasive it can be. Having more effect on people, beliefs, thoughts and actions. When certain energies come together like this it can create trends. A wave of energy that people get swept up in or choose to follow. Energy outside of ourselves can be so influential in ways we are aware of and in ways that are subtle or hidden. So how are we affected by these energetic trends in our lives? Are they beneficial or harmful to us? How can we spot or identify them? And how can we decide the best way to navigate through them?

There is a scene in the movie The Devil Wears Prada where the idea of energetic trends is explained. The well-known fashion editor explains to the new assistant how a few people can influence an entire society on what colors to wear. Just a few people in power decide what the color of the year will be. That decision is then implemented in so many clothes the public purchases. The public think they are choosing this color, but it has already been chosen for them and then pushed out in energetic trends. An influencer promotes it, a magazine does a whole article on it, the news shows off new designs and so on and so on. The energy starts to build. People feel it and join in by adding their own energy to it by buying the color and wearing it. Soon some might feel left out or not in style if they don’t join the energetic trend. And just like that, one initial opinion was able to influence an entire society of what to wear.
Most people don’t stop to process this or think about why they are making decisions that feel good or right to them. Just this is the style, ok I’ll buy it. Or I am really on trend and will be loved or admired for it. Or I don’t want to be ridiculed or made fun of if I don’t buy and wear the latest trend. Think about phrases like you are in style or so out of style. But who decided the style? The decision of a small few has built up the energetic trend to influence so many.
Now think about different parts of your life. How has it been influenced by energetic trends? Who is deciding what is right or wrong for you? How does it feel to go along with the trend or against it? These energetic trends can affect so much from decisions on healthcare, education, finances, relationships and government. When a strong belief is pushed and builds up energy it can feel bad to go against it. It can take a lot of pressure to have a different opinion. You can feel isolated and wrong to have a different opinion. And yet it can feel more comfortable to go with the trend. Be safe, feel supported by agreeing with whatever the latest belief is that is being decided by a few and pushed out to the masses.
Our energy is precious and valuable. If it is added to a trend, that trend keeps building and gains more influence. But if it is not added that trend can fizzle out and will lose momentum. For example, think back to when people were against plastic straws. People were very upset and emotional about it. People shamed others for using plastic straws. There was a huge energetic trend that built up. But over time it ran out of energy. People found the alternatives to be not as nice and suddenly they were on to the next energetic trend to put their energy into. The same thing happens with fashion trends. It changes and what was once so powerful, and influential, runs out of steam, and the next thing takes its place. So, are you committed to the idea, cause or belief? Or are you more influenced by the temporary emotions and energy?
The next time you feel influenced by an energetic trend take a few moments to think about it. Get insight into who decided it and for what reason. Even in your own family, friend group or workplace. Who is creating an energetic trend of how to think, feel or respond to a situation? Do you want to give your energy to it? Is it organic or organized? Who benefits from gaining your energy? Do you feel pressured to go along with the trend? Are you basing your decision on feeling included or excluded? How are your emotions being affected? Are you responding in a way that is emotionally appropriate? Does your response feel out of control and reactionary based? The more awareness you have of what energies are influencing you, the more thoughtful your decisions can be.
Decide what energetic trends you want to be a part of. Or will you decide to wear the colors you want and not what is being decided for you? The more you develop independent opinions the freer you can be of the influences of energetic trends. You become more creative by making choices from within. You develop more discernment and critical thinking. You voice a thoughtful response instead of an emotional reaction. Take some time and reflect on the energetic trends that influence your life. Then decide where you want to add your energy to these trends or remove it. The more awareness you have about energetic trends, the healthier emotionally and energetically you will be.
